The company KARLOFF, s.r.o. introduced at the market flavoured grained distilates of 52% alcohol under brand TATRA supplemented of natural extracts and aroma of fruit with increased volume of sugar in year 2004 as the first from the Slovak producers. This gave rise to positive boom in this segment in Slovakia and other producers started produce this products in lower alcohol volume.
Nowadays, almost after 5 years, company KARLOFF, s.r.o. as the one of the last producers introduces at the market new modification of these products under historic brand ZIPSER in 40% alcohol. Last but not least. According to research these products belong to the best at the market, but the consumer make a decision, if it´s true or not.

Spiš (Latin - Scepusium, German - Zips, Polish - Spisz and Hungarian - Szepes) is historical name of county of Ungarn. Spiš county was situated mostly in the north-east part of Slovakia. Its small part reaches to the south of Poland, between the rivers Dunajec and Bialka and state border with Slovakia.
The distilleries in Spišská Nová Ves, Kežmarok, Huncovce and Spišský Hrhov functionated in 19th and 20th century. The "spišská borovička" production works originated in Spišská Bela in 1778. The liqueur works in Spišská Bela was based by family Kleinbergerovcov in 1875 and in 1930 the heirs became copartners of factory TATRA in Poprad. Henrich Morgenbesser set up a liqueur works in Stará Ľubovňa in 1925. The most famous liquor producing works was company White Lady in Levoča in 20th century.
