You have visited many countries and know different cultures. Can you adapt quickly, or you stick to what you learned from Slovakia?
Over the past nine years I have been outside of Slovakia and I have been meeting people from many countries. I saw the most of the diversity of cultures, when I worked or lived with people from other countries. As a student in Boston I had a Chinese roommate for a couple of weeks who worked 20 hours a day six days a week. It's totally different when you hear about the hard-working Chinese people on television, and when you are competitors with them. I appreciate other cultures, but I feel the need to adapt too.
The management of postgraduate study is certainly very difficult. Can you describe your normal working day?
I get up around eight, I have a light breakfast in the pursuit of the BBC, then at ten I arrive at the university. I reply to emails, prepare a lecture, teach, I have some meeting. For lunch I usually go to town on foot, walking is a good relax. When I have time I work on some of the publications, or supervise the work of an assistant or have discussions in the kitchen with some of the students or colleagues. The work usually ends at 5 pm. My daily routine is probably about to change, because my wife is expecting our baby in September. I plan to work more from home and bring up our daughter.
You have appeared in connection with the football World Cup in the New Zealand media. How do you feel about it?
It was great fun, especially television interview in which we reflected and talked about football in Slovakia with Dusan Horniak from the Slovak Embassy in Australia. At the end of the interview we had a short drink with the reporter - it was our Slovak national drink TATRATEA 52%, which Dusan Horniak promoted at the gastronomic fair, so people in New Zealand already know and one of our unique beverages.
